Is Gregtech the only reason you guys play it? I went with Direwolf because it was selected by default, and I didn't know what I was doing when I first installed. Of course, I learned about FTB from the Mindcrack guys, and I heard that they use the MindCrack mod pack, but I didn't understand the launcher interface and that you could select your modpack from the list on the left just thought it was a list of the stuff I was already going to use.
So yeah, had my world in Direwolf. Once I realized you could switch packs, I was like "what's the difference? Mindcrack also had Twilight Forest first, so I was tempted to try it for that, but instead I just installed it in Direwolf, and a few days later they upgraded the pack to include it anyway.
That's my story. I learned later that it wasn't a beta for anything but a standalone pack that will never be updated. No, Gregtech is terrible. The real reason people play mindcraft over direwolf20 is that mindcrack is more popular youtubers and thus there are more multiplayer servers with mindcraft over direwolf I don't know, the MindCrack guys seem to be doing alright despite Gregtech. I think it adds an extra challenge for those people who find themselves stockpiling resources and basically conquering the game too easily much like the MindCrack guys.
User Info: TuxedoCyan. I don't think direwolf20's pack has twilight forest. Like it or leave it. Hey, where are you going? User Info: Midyew TuxedoCyan posted This is correct. Not like twilight forest has much for it, other than the domes full of diamonds User Info: Jiminip.
Midyew posted You can add it to it quite easily though, I did. Simply edit mod pack from the launcher and move mods from the mindcrack pack to the direwolf pack. You'll have needed to download both of course. Being nice is something stupid people do to hedge their bets. More topics from this board Why does minecraft keep restarting my computer?
I'm afraid it's not going to be limited to only him, and I really want to fix it before it drives more people crazy. As far as Igneous Extruders being broken, they were hardly the first cobblestone generator in the game. They're just the one that puts the least amount of load on the server. Also, the problem with mining using the laser is that the fast modes explode blocks instead of dropping them, which means you only get a percentage of the drops.
She refuses to touch the mining laser after a hilariously horrifying accident inside our marble mine hill. I tried out 'scatter' mode and fired a few shots.
After we marveled at the damage it did I looked up and asked "What are all those red spots on the map? The wife commenced yelling at me while I maniacally laughed. Tried out out other modes and left it on mining mode. Then I built the electric jetpacks and started flying around inside underground ravines taking potshots at endermen and creepers.
I went to put away the pearls and gunpowder while talking to the wife and the chest in front of me exploded and water started flooding in. I guess I wasn't close enough and I fired the mining laser into the chest and through the basement wall into the lake beside our house. I don't think anything was lost, but there was some additional yelling.
I kept giggling as I put the wall back together and set the chest back down. If you want to excavate big areas with the mining laser, the explosive mode is a lot more controllable than the spreadfire mode.
The regular laser modes are even more controllable, but not nearly as fast unless you're just making corridors. Yeah, I did that enough to times to forever make damn sure I didn't have the laser equipped when I was in my base. The best was when I forgot and went to check the contents of a chest.
A diamond chest. I was right clicking on machines to see what they were when I found a machine that didn't have a right click menu, and I had the laser equipped, on spreadfire mode. I did the same thing in the town house on tekkit. I rebuilt most of it then promised mazlem I wouldn't touch the mining laser until I knew what the buttons did. Jandrese is now hosting both the Mindcrack and Direwolf maps. See QCD's updated server info at the top of the page.
Since the server is in his house, surely we'll get specs and pictures of it with Minecraft blocks an tools an stuff strewn about. FYI: I'm taking down the ArsVenture wiki; it's used so little that it's neither worth the effort to update it nor the disk space it's using on my web hosting provider. Whoever posts the server info next should remove it from the listing instead of just striking through it like QCD did. Direwolf20 hosted by jandrese is currently NPE'd, meaning its down and we're waiting on him to restart it.
It's back up. Some nether notes: There is now a netherwart farm right outside the town portal gate. I'll probably try to make a better one later. As you may have guessed, I found the nether fortress. It's at about straight behind the TP. Get on top of the cobble tunnel, follow the torches and cobble blocks. You have to weave a bit for the time being, but it's there. I built stairs down to it. I'll make a proper path to it later.
On the DW20 server, I made a building for our mass fabs near spawn. It's at , 0 -- just a bit NW of the cow rainer. I built one floor for myself. If anyone else wants a floor, there should be plenty of space. You can build it above my floor, just leave glass ceilings for my solar panels below. I plan to put a quarry in below my floor, to clear out the entire chunk to the bottom. That will make more room for floors in the basement also. I'll keep it stocked so that it always runs.
Ender pearls cost basically nothing with EE3, so it should be easy to keep running forever. Everything is pretty ugly right now. I'll clean it up later as I have time. Feel free to move around any of my stuff, as long as it all still works in the end, if necessary to make space for more floors.
Somewhat unprepared, I decided to take a first ever run at a labyrinth. Kinda close to dying once or twice, but cleared the two levels. I dug into it and saw a few chests surrounded by pressure plates. Seemed likely that those plates were connected to TNT so I decided to break them I could even open the chests without doing that, but dumbass that I am I chose not to. Of course, first plate that I broke hit the neighbouring one, setting off the trap, killing me and wasting the last two hours.
I'll try again tomorrow from a backup as there's no way I'm going to accept responsibility for being an impatient idiot and we'll all just pretend it never happened. The Direwolf server went down this morning, and didn't immediately come back up. At the time, I was in Age 26, and I tried to break a sign with my hand. The sign broke, and disappeared, but never dropped on the ground.
After about 5 seconds of the server being unable to produce a sign "drop", it crashed. Of course, it could be something else, completely unrelated at the same time, but it seems strange that the sign broke, but never left a sign item.
By the way, if those who maintain the servers are considering moving to Fedora 18, I just read a review that says to skip it. So I'm working on an auto-restarter for the server, as well as a remote manager. It's not ready today, but I'm hoping to have it ready to go tonight. Luckily there are a bunch of Minecraft server admin scripts out there, although none of them were exactly what I wanted it is easy enough to modify one to do the job. That review can be summed up as: I hate Gnome 3.
For what it's worth, I slapped Fedora 18 on the minecraft server and it seems to be alright. Luckily I wasn't doing anything weird with the install so the super-simplicity was actually ok for me and Gnome 3 has been working alright, even if it is still pretty clunky.
Mostly I just open a terminal and do everything from there anyway, so the awkward app launcher isn't a huge issue. The description of the installation process is what scared me. It looks like it was terribly designed, and a bit dangerous. I'm glad it went smoothly for you. Personally, I've had very few issues with Gnome 3, even though everyone else loves to hate it.
I'm considering putting Linux on my laptop soon, and am thinking I'll finally give Mint a try. I'm all over the map with Distros. Plus the Macs and Windows machines, I try to give everything a shot. I've been using McMyAdmin to manage my server for a year or so, and it's been really helpful.
It has a nice web interface that lets me easily tweak the server remotely.
