There are a couple new consoles launching soon and the tidal wave of 4th Quarter games has only just started, I think Lost Planet 3's window of opportunity has closed for this somewhat enjoyable mid-tier game.
Game Informer. The first two games balanced out any unsavory elements with mega moments and straightforward fun. This is one of those games that you might snag on sale and end up finding enjoyment in its merits. Just know that there are several problems that are impossible to overlook when you do. Still, fans of the Lost Planet series would do well to give it a go when it gets cheaper.

Despite looking the part, and having some of the best voice work in a third person shooter, Lost Planet 3 turns the gun on itself with bad gameplay design, terrible boss battles, and a story that never delivers on its promises. It's worrying when the nicest thing you can say about a game is that the early sections manage to be boring in an interesting way, but it's true for Lost Planet 3. It's a game that manages to make third-person shooting feel like work - and one that makes work feel like something that more games should explore.

There is blood and realistic screams of pain. The game switches from third-person action outside of the 'mech' to first-person shooting. The game contains some mild profanity in the dialogue sequences, including words like "ass," "bitch" and "damn.
Parents need to know that Lost Planet 3 is a third-person shooter. The violence is mainly towards giant alien creatures. Players wield many weapons, see some blood splatters, and hear mild profanity. Online gamers can talk with each other via headset microphone, if desired, but no one is filtering or monitoring the chats.

While the premise is interesting, Lost Planet 3 's action grows repetitive after a short while -- and the environments all tend to look the same, too. Sure, some of the sequences can be thrilling -- taking cover from the Akrid or rival soldiers while experimenting with ways to diffuse the situation -- plus there are a few modes and multiplayer options to give some extra bang for the buck, but overall there isn't much here that's memorable, nor does it do anything to push the game series or genre forward.
Only those who love the Lost Planet series should consider picking up this disc or opting for a digital download and be sure to wait until the price drops significantly. It's not a hot mess, but one can't help feel disappointed with this long-awaited sequel.
